Introducing the Windsor chair re-invented. That
venerable style has long been the workhorse of the chair world:
this version deviates to encourage life at a less hurried pace.
Beginning with the bones of what some call the archback or continuous
arm Windsor, we have lowered, stretched and widened it to become
a chair of supreme comfort. The flowing back crest sweeps down
into wide comfortable arms. Each of its sixteen spindles are formed
with a spokeshave; the back spindles are widened in the lumbar area and
curve up to follow the spinal curve. The saddle is carved nearly two
inches deep revealing stunning grain patterns and offering luxury that
no other wooden chair can. With the addition of a footstool, this
becomes a true lounge ensemble in the style we call Luxury Windsor
Modern.
Named the J-class chair and footstool after a particularly beautiful
breed of racing yachts first built in the 1930's, the flowing lines and
sleek undercarriage of this chair take their cues from a J-class yacht
under full press. With care, this chair promises a similar legacy of
fine craftsmanship, natural materials and timeless form.
